Basic Navigation Concepts

Use and types of roadbooks

Roadbooks are co-pilot's notebooks or motorcyclist's roll of paper with precise and detailed route instructions. They contain notes on landmarks, distances, changes of direction and other data relevant to navigation. The information is presented in the form of symbols, descriptions and diagrams that riders and co-pilots must interpret and follow during the competition.

Reading and interpretation of compasses or CAPs

The compass is an instrument that indicates the cardinal direction of magnetic north, allowing pilots to determine their orientation and direction in relation to the map or the course marked in the roadbook. The ability to read and use a compass is essential to navigate correctly and stay on the intended route.
